In-Wall Frame for a Smart Toilet: Do You Need One and Which to Choose
A wall-hung smart toilet needs an in-wall frame; a floor-standing one doesn't. We explain what to prepare in the wall for the electronics and whether a frame that's already in place will do.

Does a smart toilet need an in-wall frame
A smart toilet doesn't always need an in-wall frame — it all depends on whether it's wall-hung or floor-standing.
- A wall-hung smart toilet is fixed to the wall on an in-wall frame — a metal frame hidden behind the finish. Without one, a wall-hung model can't be installed. At Kinematika Pro, all D-series models are wall-hung.
- A floor-standing smart toilet doesn't need a frame: it stands on the floor like a regular one and connects to water and a 220 V outlet. These are the O-series models.
If you're looking for a smart toilet without an in-wall frame, see the floor-standing models. If a frame is already in place or you're renovating from scratch, see the wall-hung models.
People also search for an “in-wall frame for a toilet with a bidet function”, as if a bidet needed a special frame. For a smart toilet that's not the case: the bidet is built into the toilet itself — the nozzle, water heater and dryer are hidden in the body. You don't need to install a separate bidet or a hygienic shower next to it.
Wall-hung on a frame or floor-standing: which is better
The question “which is better: a smart toilet or an in-wall frame” really means choosing between a wall-hung smart toilet on a frame and a floor-standing one. The key differences:
| Wall-hung on a frame (D series) | Floor-standing (O series) | |
|---|---|---|
| Mounting | On a frame in the wall | On the floor, like a regular toilet |
| Floor under the toilet | Clear, easy to clean | Taken up by the toilet's base |
| Flush | Built-in 5.3 L tank — works at any water pressure | Tankless (needs good pressure) or with a tank — O92B, O93B |
| Drain outlet | Into the wall | Into the wall or into the floor — O92F, O93F |
| When it's more convenient | Renovation from scratch or a frame already in place | No renovation planned; you need to replace an old toilet |

Wall-hung models in the D88–D93 series also have a battery: up to 50 flushes without power. And most of our models are 588–590 mm deep — about 59 cm instead of the usual 70 cm of a regular toilet: a noticeable difference in a tight bathroom.
Which in-wall frame to choose for a smart toilet
A smart toilet attaches to an in-wall frame the same way as a regular wall-hung one: the frame holds the toilet, and the pipes run behind the finish. The main difference is the electronics. So when choosing and installing a frame for a smart toilet, think not only about the frame itself but also about what needs to be brought to it:
- Water. The supply should come out so that the toilet's hose connects without kinks or extra adapters.
- A 220 V outlet. It goes next to the toilet, within reach of the cord. Wire it according to the rules for bathrooms and, if in doubt, with an electrician.
- Drain. All our wall-hung models have a drain outlet into the wall, like a regular wall-hung toilet.
- Mounting points. Check the frame's compatibility with the specific model before buying: give our manager the frame model or send a photo of it.
Exactly where to bring out the water and the outlet, and at what height to hang the toilet, depends on the model. Check this with our manager before finishing the wall: moving an outlet after tiling is harder.
A word on water pressure. It doesn't matter for wall-hung models: they all have a built-in 5.3-liter tank that fills up between flushes. So a wall-hung smart toilet is a good choice for homes where the pressure is weak or fluctuates.
How to prepare your bathroom for a wall-hung smart toilet
If you're renovating, the order of work is:
- Choose the toilet model before installing the frame — the model determines where to bring out the water and the outlet.
- Ask our manager where to bring out the water supply and the 220 V outlet, and at what height to hang the toilet.
- Install the frame, connect the water and the drain, and bring out the outlet. Do the electrical work according to the rules for bathrooms.
- Before finishing, check that the water doesn't leak and the outlet works.
- Close the frame with the wall finish.
- Hang the smart toilet, connect the water and power, and test all the functions: lid, wash, dryer, heating, flush and voice commands.
Can a smart toilet go on an existing in-wall frame
Yes. If the bathroom already has a frame for a regular wall-hung toilet, you don't have to replace it: a wall-hung smart toilet can be hung on the existing one. How it's done — connecting water and power and testing — is shown in the video “Installing a Smart Toilet on an Existing Frame”.
The main question in this case is the outlet. Power is usually not brought to a frame for a regular toilet, so decide in advance where the smart one will be plugged in. Before buying, send our manager photos of the frame and the area around it — they'll tell you whether the chosen model will fit.
What else to check on an old frame:
- The frame is solid, and the mounting studs are in place and undamaged.
- The water supply doesn't leak, and the toilet's hose can be connected to it.
- The drain outlet is in the wall — our wall-hung models drain into the wall.
- There's room nearby for an outlet that the cord can reach.
